Anet.az, an online advertising market released in Azerbaijan

A seminar on “Obstacles for development of the Internet in Azerbaijan, possible solutions and its future” is in its ongoing stage now. The seminar is organized by Nord Media and Caspian Engineering Society (CES) in Caspian Plaza’s conference hall and started at 14:00 pm today.
The main topics of the seminar are Alexa analysis of the Internet trends in Azerbaijan, most common search keywords, Internet Service Providers (ISP), domains and registrars and social networking.
At the end of the seminar was the presentation of http://www.anet.az which is the Internet advertising market.

American Rock and Roll in Baku

To wrap up a month-long celebration of American Days in Baku, Park Bulvar shopping mall will play host to an American-style rock concert featuring three bands this Sunday, May 1, begining at 12 noon.

Two bands featuring young American musicians from The International School of Azerbaijan (TISA) – ❤ (Less Than Three) and Entropy – will open the concert.  The Loaded Ladas, a band featuring Baku-resident international musicians, will perform American rock classics, as well. Continue reading

Obama releases original long-form birth certificate

Washington (CNN) — The White House released copies of President Barack Obama’s original long-form birth certificate Wednesday, seeking to put an end to persistent rumors that he was not born in the United States.

The certificate states, as Obama’s advisers have repeatedly said, that the president was born at Honolulu’s Kapiolani Hospital on August 4, 1961. Doubters insist Obama was born overseas — possibly in his father’s home country of Kenya — and may be constitutionally ineligible to serve as president.

“We do not have time for this kind of silliness,” Obama told reporters at the White House. “I’ve been puzzled at the degree to which this (story) just kept on going.” Continue reading

Azerbaijan IT company introduces trial version of mini-computer with voice control

Baku- (Trend News Agency – McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) – Azerbaijan IT-company Neyrotech introduced a trial version of a mini-computer with voice control, Dilmanc project manager Abulfat Fatullayev told Trend on Wednesday.

Customers of the project are the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry and Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Fatullayev said the design and software component device is fully developed by Dilmanc with Neyrotech. A prototype of a mini-computer has been made in China. The software component device is made in the Azerbaijani language.

“If a need arises, the device can be put into mass production. Mini-computer can be useful for both blind and visually impaired people and others needing it. The device is controlled by voice commands, allowing one to gather news from RSS- channels, search for and publicize the availability of the literature requested by speaker in the electronic database of library, control e-mail, inform about the presence of e-mails in inbox, reply to letters, make phone calls, etc,” Fatullayev said.

Baku-Today Azerbaijan Media Center and IREX are going to hold round table on “Internet Freedom and Security” at 15:00.The main topic of the round table is discussing of the chapter relating to Azerbaijan of the 2011 yearly report about “Internet Freedom” of the Freedom House Organization.

Zakir Qasimov, the representative of Ministry of Telecommucation called the report of Freedom House not reliable. He made a statement on licence of ISP’s in Azerbaijan.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Kaidanow Concludes Visit to Azerbaijan

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Tina Kaidanow on April 25 met with President Ilham Aliyev, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, other high-level Government of Azerbaijan officials, and civil society leaders during her visit to Baku.

In her meetings, Deputy Assistant Secretary Kaidanow exchanged views on regional issues and U.S.-Azerbaijan bilateral relations, stressing the strategic and shared interests underlying bilateral cooperation in security, energy and democratic reform.
